Gmail Bulk Delete Not Working? Check Scope and Completion
If Gmail moved less mail than expected, first confirm the search and selection scope. The checkbox selects the current page; the separate notification can extend to all matches. If the operation errored or the result is unclear, inspect the remaining mail before retrying.
Check these in order
- Confirm the signed-in account and rerun the exact original search. Make sure you are checking the same inbox, category and date conditions.
- Read the selected-conversation notification. If you selected only the page, a page-sized result is expected; it is not evidence of a mailbox-wide limit.
- Wait for Gmail’s feedback. Avoid overlapping deletions or navigating away during an unclear action.
- Inspect Trash and the remaining results. A conversation can contain multiple messages and match several views, so a list count alone does not prove what moved.
- If needed, try a smaller, reviewed date range and verify it before the next one. Do not assume any particular batch size is guaranteed.
If the all-results link is missing
Every result may already fit on one page, or you may be in a different Gmail view or app. Use the selection diagnostic to distinguish these cases. The desktop workflow should not be assumed to exist unchanged on mobile.
Check mixed conversations
Search can return a whole conversation when only some messages match. In particular, -is:starred does not guarantee protection for starred messages in a mixed thread. Open important conversations and handle individual messages when necessary.
Does sender cleanup fit this task?
Inbox Cleaner needs an open Gmail tab in desktop Chrome. Its sender-wide action can include archived mail and does not inherit date, category, size, unread or starred restrictions. For those limits, use native Gmail. Counts may be approximate and are not storage measurements. Read setup, permissions and recovery limits.
If the extension action is unclear
A source review cannot establish whether Gmail’s current controls work in every account. Read any error or partial-result message, inspect the mailbox and rescan before another cleanup. Do not equate a disappearing popup, an estimate or an interrupted operation with confirmed success.
Review Trash separately
Gmail normally allows Trash recovery for up to 30 days unless permanently removed sooner. Archive and Trash still use storage. Review before Empty Trash or Delete forever; those actions end ordinary recovery.
Clean up Gmail with the Chrome extension
Rank senders, select the ones you want to clear, and move their emails to Trash. Mail in Trash is normally recoverable for up to 30 days unless permanently removed sooner.
